Building Speed's First Weekly Newsletter

Welcome to our first ever weekly newsletter! Here you’ll find weekly updates from Building Speed on what we are doing, what the industry is doing, and what you should be doing. Have a great week and enjoy!

Tip of the Week: Have your resume reviewed by your university’s career center!

First up: What We’re Doing

Keep an eye out for our newest articles: How Building Speed Came to Be and our next incredible Trailblazer, Meg Dietrich. Meg, of @megdrivesconfidence on Instagram, (fill in quick description of Meg**). We cannot wait for you to learn more about her and, more importantly, from her. Additionally, look out for an article in the next few weeks about all-things cold calling: how, why, and everything in between.

What the Industry is Doing

Naturally, the industry is going racing soon! Look out for the first Formula One race of the season on March 16th, 2025. With six pilots making their debuts as full-time F1 drivers, it is sure to be a season jam-packed with excitement. The FIA World Endurance Championship also kicks off on February 28th of this year at the Lusail International Circuit. The race marks the 12th season of this championship and will occur over a ten-hour period. Next up, look forward to the continuation of the 2024/2025 Formula E season on April 12th in Miami. This race comes with incredible volunteer opportunities, which you can find linked below. The first round of the 2025 MotoGP season shares its start with FIA WEC on February 28th, with the race occurring on March 2nd at the Chang International Circuit in Thailand. The sixth NASCAR race of the season happens at our very own CCO, Catalina’s, favorite American track, the Circuit of the Americas, on March 2nd. NASCAR shares March 2nd with INDYCAR, who will be kicking off their season in St. Petersburg, Florida, on the same day.

In other news, Formula One celebrated its 75th anniversary and the unveiling of the ten participating teams’ liveries. The event occurred at London’s O2 arena and garnered a staggering 7.5 million viewers. It was hosted by comedian Jack Whitehall and featured performers such as Tems and Machine Gun Kelly. Kick Sauber was the first to unveil their livery, and teams such as McLaren and Ferrari nodded to their historic roots in their presentation. The Building Speed team cannot wait to see more from F1 soon.

What You Should Be Doing

With the spring semester rolling on steadily, we encourage college students looking to get into motorsports to look for internship opportunities. Websites such as Indeed, Teal, and ZipRecruiter can be great places to start, but we know how overwhelming those websites can be. We have linked below several specific opportunities from companies such as Hendrick Motorsports, General Motorsports, Speedway Motorsports, and NASCAR. Additionally, it is imperative that college students spend time volunteering, at least once a semester. Volunteer opportunities are available at racetracks around the country and can be a great way to get your name out there and show potential employers that you are passionate about the industry in a variety of contexts. We highly recommend calling tracks to see if they need help! Do not worry if that sounds intimidating: Building Speed will have an article out soon all things cold-calling.
